Life On Mission – Daily Devotion – Day 4
‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. ‘ John 14:26
‘Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, ‘ Ephesians 5:18
‘In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. ‘ Romans 8:26-27
What is being said?
I don’t know your background, what experience you have had with the Holy Spirit but I hope this can help you wherever you are. The Holy Spirit can sometimes be seen as the awkward Uncle, we don’t understand him so we don’t talk about him. The Holy Spirit however is God and he was promised to come to come alongside us.
When I have put myself in situations where I put distraction to one side, open my ears and heart to what the Holy Spirit (God) is saying to me my joy and effectiveness for God’s mission was turned right up. I also know that the Holy Spirit has been my comforter in my weakness. Last year we experienced a miscarriage but although that was an upsetting and horrific time it also allowed us to so clearly feel the power and comfort of the Holy Spirit in a way I had not experienced previously.
Today I know the Holy Spirit is speaking, nudging us to get involved in the mission of God. I know life can be busy; work commitments, children needing attention, bills needing paying. I try and understand that all of that will be dealt with but if we listen to our advocate, our comforter, the one of empowers then today could be a day filled with joy, effectiveness, mission and power.
Today I pray that I will hear the voice of the Holy Spirit clearly and will be moved by His presence to participate.
